There are myriad styling tricks to create the illusion of a youthful complexion, but colours may be one of the most powerful, according to a style enthusiast.
In a recent YouTube clip, style enthusiast Marie-Anne Lecoeur claimed choosing the right shade can knock 10 years off a person's appearance.
"Wearing the right colour can be a game-changer," the expert declared in the video. "My first colour tip to look younger is the most important.
"It’s not so much about the colour that you’re wearing but the shade. Always wear the shade that compliments your complexion.

"If you wear the wrong shade, you will look tired.
"If you wear the shade that suits your eye and suits your hair, it will make your face look brighter."
How to tell which shade suits you
According to Marie-Anne, people should hold individual garments against their face to identify which suits them best.
"I think it’s important not to get pigeonholed with some test that will give you only about a dozen colours or shades that you can wear," she explained.
"The simplest test that I always advise is to hold a piece of clothing against your face in natural light, and look at yourself in the mirror and see the effect of that shade on your skin because this is what matters.
"If you look tired that piece of clothing is not for you, but if you look bright, if you look younger and healthier, that means you can wear it."
The goal is to create contrast between hair colour and skin tone. In other words, those who have darker hair should wear lighter colours and vice versa.
The best fabric for a youthful complexion
The beauty influencer claimed elsewhere in her clip that fabric is equally important for enhancing one's appearance.
"The fabric of a garment greatly affects the way it responds to your complexion, [which] is something other colour tests do not take into account," she said. "The fabric will have an impact on whether that shade suits you."
Textiles that enhance the complexion tend to be the most luxurious, like silk and cashmere.

People should opt for colours that brighten their complexion

Miranda Holder, celebrity stylist and Feel Good Fashion Coach, recently told GB News that the wrong shades can undermine a person's best efforts to look good.
According to the style expert, wearing harsh colours like white and black is a notorious fashion faux pas as it adds years to a person’s appearance.
Miranda told GB News: "As we get older, wearing the right colours becomes even more crucial to look our best and the transformative effects of wearing the right one (and sadly also the wrong ones) should not be underestimated.
"Finding the right hues to suit our skin tone can prove trickier as the colour of our hair and even our eyes can alter, throwing our appearance off balance and making our previously ‘go-to’ tones harder to wear."
