New makeup rules may be necessary once you hit middle age, according to an expert
The same tried and tested makeup techniques may have worked in your 20s, 30s and 40s. However, as the skin matures, you may have to rethink your methods to flatter an older face.
A makeup artist shared some of her top makeup tips to aid this transition, highlighting the "makeup situations [she] would never do over the age of 50". She advised this demographic to get out of the habit of "baking" under their eyes.
Carmindy Beauty (@carmindy_beauty on TikTok) has been a makeup artist and beauty expert for over 30 years.
The expert shared the product she would never wear as an over-50s makeup enthusiast, claiming that it can make your lips look "crusty".
The expert urged middle-aged ladies to stop 'baking' under their eyes

Instead, she advised: "You always want to use a nice, creamy, hydrating pigmented lipstick to ensure your lips' health and hydration."
Offering another top tip for women in this age group, Carmindy instructed them not to "bake" underneath their eyes. She explained that baking is when you "press all that heavy powder" in.
Fine lines begin to emerge around the eyes as we age, which means that any powder applied in this area can settle into the lines and accentuate them.
The makeup artist said: "Yeah, you can get away with that when you're 20 - but not when you're over the age of 50."
Indeed, she warned ladies over a certain age: "You're going to look like a creasy, concrete block of cracky mess."
Carmindy offered another mature makeup tip, urging women over 50 to stop using cream formula eyeshadow.
She said: "Our lids do not look like they once used to, so creams are just going to slip and slide and settle into fine lines and creases."
Instead, Carmindy recommended using a "sheer, lightweight, watercolour-style" eyeshadow powder.
