Hot water with lemon could do wonders for your liver and consequently, your skin

It's possible to knock years off your appearance without going down the cosmetic treatment route.

A dermatology nurse practitioner spoke exclusively to GB News about how women can improve their skin to make it look "10 years younger".

To shave a decade off your appearance, Emma Coleman advised starting your days off with a specific drink.

The expert told skin enthusiasts: "Start each day with hot water and lemon on an empty stomach to cleanse the liver and hydrate before reaching for caffeinated drinks."

Skin experts at SkinVision explained the important link between the skin and the liver. Taking care of your liver is essential for beautiful, healthy skin.

The experts said: "We rely on our livers to eliminate toxins from our bodies - if liver function is impaired in any way then our bodies will find another way to get rid of toxins.

"Our skin has so many functions, but one main one is elimination. If your liver is not working as well as it could, toxins that are slowly being released through the skin can build up and cause skin problems.

"These can include dermatitis, premature wrinkles, red itchy rashes, hives, acne rosacea, eczema, brown liver spots, painful rashes that may develop into ulcers and psoriasis."

For a healthy, functioning liver, the experts suggested "cutting toxins from your diet, limiting alcohol and processed foods and eating more raw foods and whole foods".

To look "10 years younger", dermatology expert Emma also advised women to apply a vitamin C serum each morning and a Hyaluronic Acid serum each night. These will "purge the skin with antioxidants and hydration".

Ladies should also be using a specific product every day to ensure a youthful complexion.

Emma instructed: "Wear a light, non-comedogenic [non pore-blocking] moisturiser containing SPF all year round. Don’t forget the neck and backs of the hands too."

The experts at Completely Family Dermatology seconded the importance of moisturiser. Keeping the skin hydrated prevents dryness, which can lead to a multitude of skin issues including redness, acne, and shininess from an over-reactive production of oil. Moisturiser also protects the pores from environmental pollutants.

As well as reducing the risk of skin cancer, SPF has major anti-ageing benefits. An article published in the National Library of Medicine explained that sunscreen shields the skin from harmful UV rays, prevents premature ageing, tanning, and sunburns, reduces blotchiness on the face, improves the health of the skin, and lowers the risk of skin cancer.

A skin expert previously spoke exclusively to GB News about why SPF is the "unsung hero" in anti-ageing and a "non-negotiable" product.

Another way women can look younger is by revamping their makeup routine. A makeup artist warned that your concealer could be making you look 10 years older - and how you can fix that.
