Hydration, supplements and eating a nutritious diet have all been recommended as ways to achieve younger-looking skin

Youthful skin is a goal for many mature women but it can be difficult to know the best methods to achieve this.

Founders of The Plastic Surgery Group, Dan Marsh and Mo Akhavani, spoke exclusively to GB News about how to enjoy younger-looking skin without going under the knife.

"The key to keeping the skin looking and feeling its best for longer is taking a multifaceted approach -something that lots of celebrities are now doing in order to look younger for longer," the plastic surgeons explained.

Offering a top tip, the experts instructed: "Keep your skin healthy and looking young by keeping it hydrated.

"This can be done from the inside by ensuring you drink plenty of water, which helps to flush out toxins and keep the skin hydrated and bright.

"Also use topical skin care products which contain hydrating ingredients such as peptides and hyaluronic acid, as these help to protect the skin's barrier and improve hydration."

Supplements can also be a huge benefit to women in helping them to "reduce wrinkles and fine lines", among other skin benefits.

The experts said: "We have seen first-hand a huge difference in scar healing for patients who take a course of collagen supplements pre and post-operation.

"Collagen supplements are not only good for scar healing but also for enhancing the skin's moisture content, as well as improving elasticity."

Nutrition also plays a big part in achieving great skin. Indeed, a healthy, balanced diet is one of the cornerstones of skin health and helps to prevent the signs of premature ageing.

"Try to incorporate a variety of at least five fruits and vegetables a day to provide antioxidants which help protect the skin from damage and pollution," the experts advised.

"Similarly, because your skin cells are surrounded by layers of fat that make up the cell wall, incorporating healthy fats into your diet can help to keep skin healthy and plump."

Those in pursuit of younger-looking skin should stock up on omega-6 fatty acids, found in chicken, fish, eggs and seafood.

Another healthy fat to incorporate into your diet is omega-3 fatty acids, which can be found in fish, seafood, nuts and plant oils.

While there are many ways women can achieve younger-looking skin at home, another option is to go down the professional route.

Dan and Mo mentioned polynucleotides, a regenerative treatment that is growing in popularity.

Polynucleotides are made from naturally derived substances which are biodegradable and break down in the body over time.

While polynucleotide injectables are expensive, the experts explained that they can produce very effective results.

They stated: "When polynucleotides are injected into the skin they expedite the body’s cell regeneration, effectively helping the body to help itself.

"They boost cell turnover and encourage the repair of damaged tissue, helping to address signs of ageing such as wrinkles, lines and sunspots, resulting in healthier, fresher skin."

Those considering a cosmetic treatment should always do their research and ensure a qualified professional administers it.
