A doctor shared the ingredients to look out for in your skin care routine
Having a daily skin care ritual is all well and good but if your products aren't up to scratch, you could be wasting your time.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert has shared the ingredients you should look out for in your favourite products.
A good moisturiser should be a staple for anyone searching for plump, youthful skin. A well-hydrated face can look years younger.
Dr Hannah Kopelman called this an "essential" product for anyone's routine and there are many different versions on the market.
Moisturiser is great for anti-ageing
GETTYThe best product for you will depend on your skin type, whether you have dry or oily skin and any other specific skin problems.
However, it is worth everyone looking out for three key anti-ageing ingredients, according to the expert.
Dr Kopelman said: "Keeping your skin hydrated is essential for maintaining its elasticity and smoothness.
"I suggest using a good moisturiser that suits your skin type. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and ceramides are excellent for retaining moisture and keeping your skin plump."
Hyaluronic acid is found in lots of products and it is great for hydration and plumpness. Studies have shown the ingredient helps with the retention of water, which is beneficial as "skin ageing is also associated with loss of skin moisture", a study in the National Library of Medicine said.
Glycerin has also been shown to help your skin stay hydrated. A study looked into the moisture retention of glycerin solutions.
Discussing anti-ageing, it said: "The moisture-retention capacity of ingredients is crucial in cosmetics. An effective moisture-retaining agent in cosmetic products can be beneficial against skin ageing.
"A humectant is a hygroscopic substance that can maintain skin moisture and hydration.
"Loss of skin hydration engenders skin dryness, wrinkling, sagging, and laxity. Accordingly, several studies have sought humectants that exhibit high efficacy in retaining moisture on the human stratum corneum."

After applying a good moisturiser, it is important to protect your skin with a high-factor SPF. Speaking to GB News, a doctor explained sunscreen should be applied to the face every day to combat fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.
She advised looking for a sunscreen that has hyaluronic acid. The doctor said: "Using a sunscreen that contains an anti-ageing hyaluronic acid can help to protect from the sun rays while also giving skin the hydration it needs."
