Adding a shimmer product to your foundation could make a major difference to your appearance

While ageing is a gift, there's nothing wrong with wanting to knock a few years off of your appearance - and makeup can be great for this when applied well.

A beauty and anti-ageing enthusiast took to YouTube to share a makeup hack that helps her turn back the clock.

Magazine editor turned YouTuber Leonie Barlow (also known as The Style Insider) revealed that she adds a shimmer product to her foundation before applying it.

She said: "I'm 56 years old and regularly get asked about my best anti-ageing skin care and makeup tips - and today, I'm sharing them all with you."

In a video about "how to look younger in 10 minutes", Leoni explained that one of her "simple tips and tricks" is to incorporate a shimmer into her foundation.

She said: "I - for a number of years now - have used a shimmer product, and I mix a couple of drops into my foundation and apply them both at the same time.

"This makes my foundation go on a whole lot smoother and it gives a really flawless finish. It sort of gives that luminous, almost glassy skin.

"Now I don't want my skin to look shiny or oily, but it does just give it a little bit of luminosity - which, in my opinion, is quite a youthful look."

She explained that shimmer products can be added to any foundation and "gives the skin an instant lift".

Leonie continued: "Another little trick of the trade I've been doing for a number of years is mixing a tiny little bit of eye cream with my under-eye concealer.

"I don't know about you but as I've gotten older I find that no matter what concealer brand I use, it always gets trapped in the fine lines under my eyes.

"If I add a tiny bit of eye cream to my concealer, it stops that happening but it still gives me that nice bit of coverage that I need."

She explained that the skin under her eyes has become "thinner" and more "translucent" with age, which this hack combats.

A quick revamp of your makeup routine can work wonders when it comes to looking younger.
