Two makeup products can help ladies achieve a "structured" yet "soft" look

When it comes to anti-ageing, there are many options out there, from skin care to hair hacks to exercise. But if you want to look younger in seconds, a good makeup routine might just be the answer.

A professional artist spoke exclusively to GB News about the makeup techniques that can help women over 50 look younger. The expert recommended investing in a fine-tip brow pencil or tinted brow gel for better brows in seconds.

Maria Jones stated: "Skin preparation is key. Hydration is not just about applying a moisturiser but using serums with hyaluronic acid or peptides to plump the skin and improve elasticity.

"A primer - specifically formulated for mature skin, often with blurring technology - can smooth the appearance of fine lines and pores, setting the stage for flawless makeup application."

When it comes to foundation, the "important thing" is choosing a product that provides a "medium-coverage, dewy-finish formula, filled with skin-nourishing ingredients like vitamin C or niacinamide".

She continued: "Cream-based products of blush and bronzer are much more superior on mature skin than powders since they truly meld with the skin and give an appearance of its natural luminescence without any cakey or dry look or feeling.

"Gentle contouring with soft, warm shades can also give a generally lifted look to the face by defining cheekbones but with no harsh lines."

To provide an instant fix for thinning eyebrows - which occurs as oestrogen levels start to deplete, affecting the hair growth cycle - Maria recommended two specific products.

She said: "As we all know, brows naturally thin over age. So using a fine-tip brow pencil or tinted brow gel can re-establish and lift the eye area for a structured and at the same time soft appearance.

"Eyeshadow should lean towards satin or matte finishes in neutrals, as glitters or too-shimmery textures tend to accentuate wrinkles.

"Tight-lining the upper lash line with a waterproof eyeliner gives the illusion of fuller lashes without the harshness of a full line, and finishing the look with a high-quality lengthening mascara opens up the eyes further."

As for lip makeup, women over 50 were advised to "start by evening out the surface with a lip primer or balm".

The expert continued: "Then go for lipsticks with creamy or satin finishes enriched with oils or butter that will keep your lips hydrated.

"A soft lip liner that is one shade closer to your natural lip colour will define your lips and prevent feathering.

"Finally, putting some gloss in the middle of the lips can give them a fuller appearance, which adds to youthful beauty."

While the right makeup techniques can have a transformative, anti-ageing effect, the wrong methods might leave you looking worse.
