A blunt bob with no layers could be adding years to your appearance
A hairstylist with almost three decades behind the salon chair revealed the hair "mistakes" many women make that can "age you faster".
Justin Hickox, who has been a hairstylist since 1995, advised ladies to swap one-length, blunt cuts for more layered looks.
Referring to a female client who wrote to Justin for hair tips, the expert pointed out that her bob haircut was needlessly ageing. This was because she had layers at the front of her face but not at the nape or the top.
According to the expert, neglecting to have these specific layers is a "mistake" that can "age you faster".
Creating volume at the nape of the neck is crucial for a youthful look

First, Justin explained the reasoning behind adding layers at the nape of the neck. He claimed that having extra "bulk" in the bottom - as a result of a lack of layers - "draws the eyes back and down".
The expert said: "I think if we added a little bit more shape at the back by bevelling that a bit more, it will go a long way to alleviating some of that squareness and lifting the eye up the shape.
"Once we pull some of that bulk out of the nape, it immediately starts drawing the eye up the shape.
"This also helps to create the illusion of more volume on top, due to having less volume on the bottom."
Layering also has the effect of creating dimension and texture, which lends itself to a more youthful appearance.
Justin continued: "This also creates the illusion that the angle is a little bit more severe than it actually is.
"This is really good because we want the angle to follow the jawline, but we don't want to have to leave it too angled or too long in the front."
According to the expert, another hair "mistake" that makes women look older is a lack of layering at the top of the head.
He claimed that the "biggest problem" with this is that it adds "heaviness", which does not help with volume.
In turn, not having enough volume on the top can highlight the volume at the sides, making for a more bulky look and drawing the eyes downward.

Layers create volume, movement and shape

He explained that by layering the hair a bit more, you can create volume on top and take some bulk out of the sides.
The expert continued: "It would also help us to get a lot more movement to make the overall shape feel a lot more current and overall a lot more youthful."
