How individuals apply their coverage could be key to achieving a youthful glow

Using make-up correctly can help all skin types radiate a healthy glow, regardless of a person’s age.

A healthy diet and adequate hydration act as the building blocks of a youthful appearance. Coupled with the right make-up tricks, anyone can knock years off their face in seconds.

Speaking to GB News, a beauty expert highlighted the make-up techniques that work best for a youthful glow.

Diane Ackers, TV host and beauty expert for Doctors Cosmeceutical Skincare Formula, stressed that less really is more when it comes to applying foundation.

She explained: “Getting the base right is the best way to make you look as old as you feel, not what your birth certificate says.

“By keeping the skin hydrated, you prevent that ageing drying look of foundation into the skin.

“Make-up, especially when heavily applied, can add years to your face. Believing you can cover up your age typically is the fastest route to making you look older than your true skin years."

Aside from going overboard with foundation, make-up fans can also age their appearance by applying too much product to the eyes and mouth.

“Heavy make-up, too much rouge/blusher, lots of powder and flittery eye shadows can all age a person prematurely,” noted Diane.

It is also worth mentioning that the conditioning of skin before applying coverage will enhance glow and durability - helping to avoid a ‘cakey’ appearance.

The goal here is to ensure the skin looks well-hydrated, explained the expert.

She continued: “When trying to make maturing skin appear more youthful, distressed and dehydrated skin needs to be treated.

“Firstly, that promotes a smoother surface to your skin for make-up to be applied, plus it diminishes the finer lines and any areas of rough texture which make-up would otherwise grab onto.

“Look after the skin you’re in for a natural glow, increased elasticity and wrinkles that stay at bay for longer.”

Diane suggests prioritising products that include the ingredient dimethicone before applying make-up.

These “can offer a super slide and glide with your foundation whilst at the same time minimising the appearance of pores,” explained the expert.
