As we age, our skin loses its elasticity due to collagen breakdown, which creates wrinkles and fine lines.
An expert shared how women can prevent premature ageing and retain a youthful appearance through skin care.
Skin care expert at sk:n Corine Tracey recommended exclusively to GB News to use a high-SPF broad-spectrum suncream, ideally an SPF 50.
She said: "Daily SPF is essential to protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays, which contribute to skin ageing, hyperpigmentation and even skin cancer."
Daily SPF application is very important in protecting your skin
GETTYEven on cloudy days, "always wear your SPF" as UV rays are present all year round.
Corine said: "UV rays can penetrate windows, accelerating skin ageing and pigmentation. Daily sunscreen application is the best anti-ageing step you can take."
The best time to apply your SPF is in the morning, alongside a "cleanse with a gentle face wash".
The expert stated: "Overnight, sweat, oil, and bacteria can build up on your skin. Using a mild, hydrating cleanser helps remove impurities without stripping away essential moisture."
Another good product to apply is an antioxidant serum with ingredients such as vitamin C inside.
Corine explained: "It helps neutralise free radicals from pollution and UV exposure, preventing premature ageing and skin damage.
"Use active ingredients suited to your skin type; not all skin care products work for everyone. Those with acne-prone skin should look for salicylic acid or niacinamide, while those with dry skin benefit from ceramides and hyaluronic acid."
Women can not expect to see changes immediately and need to be "patient and consistent" with their application.
