Many skin care enthusiasts describe vitamin C as a holy grail ingredient

Anti-ageing is one of the most common concerns dermatologists encounter in their patients.

Because most skin ageing is caused by external factors like sun exposure and pollution, individuals have some degree of control over how quickly their skin changes.

Vitamin C has gained a lot of traction as an anti-ageing agent because it protects against these elements.

What's more, there is anecdotal evidence that the antioxidant brightens the skin in a short space of time.

Kimberly, from Pretty Over Fifty, has shared her experience with vitamin C on YouTube, claiming the results were impressive.

The content creator dedicates her channel to skin care for women over 50, to help enhance their appearance at all stages of life.

She uses a powdered version of vitamin C that is mixed with glycerine to create a serum.

Kimberly claims this produce helped her skin look “brighter” and more dewy within the space of eight months only. She also noticed less redness in the face.

“You can see the difference in my skin, it looks brighter, the tone is a bit more even. I think it looks less red and weathered," she said.

“I think my skin looks fresher now and a little bit dewier and I credit vitamin C for these results."

When use consistently, some people notice vitamin C tackles other concerns like texture and tone.

Doctor Jenny Liu explains that the antioxidant used is used predominantly in defence against ultraviolet radiation and pollution.

“It helps to augment the protective benefits of my sunscreen,” the expert explained. “Vitamin C is also important because it helps even our your skin tone.

“Vitamin C is really important for collagen synthesis. I have been using an antioxidant vitamin C serum in my routine for over seven to eight years now.”
