Britons may renovate their gardens to add value, but some features could actually knock the selling price

When it comes to selling a home, everyone wants to get the best price possible.

There are some simple ways to boost the value of a home, such as giving the décor a refresh and fixing any faults inside.

However, there are also some changes that could decrease the value of a home, according to a new study by Power Shed.

The research showed some garden features could make a buyer less likely to make an offer.

Artificial grass and built in trampolines were shown to be the least desirable garden features, the study showed.

Some 55 per cent said they did not like these in a garden and experts at Blenkin & Co estate agents stated artificial grass could knock a home's value by almost £15,000.

Interestingly, two in five people said a swimming pool would stop them from making an offer.

The experts added it could drop the home value by as much as £57,000.

Other features that would put a buyer off included an outdoor sauna, with 39 per cent of people not liking this, and a hot tub, with 38 per cent of buyers avoiding it.

An outdoor gym, outdoor kitchen and dull garden décor were also offputting.

However, a property is worth as much as a buyer is willing to pay for it.

While these features could deter some people, they may be appealing to other potential buyers.
