GB News is sharing everything you need to know to grow and care for the plants in your garden and home. This week, we share two things that are worth planting in the coming weeks

As the days get shorter and temperatures drop, spending hours in the garden will not be high on many people's to-do lists.

However, don't give up on your garden for the season yet, as November is the best time to plant some things in preparation for next year.

Garlic and tulips can do particularly well when planted in November, co-founder of GreenPal Gene Caballero stated.

He told GB News: "For anyone looking to plant some plants in November, I highly recommend garlic and tulips.

"Garlic planted in November establishes roots and shoots before the deep winter, leading to strong growth in spring."

When planting garlic, the expert shared the optimal type of soil to go for and how far apart to plant them.

Gene advised: "Plant cloves in a sunny spot with well-draining soil, about two inches deep and four inches apart. Cover with mulch to protect against severe cold."

The founder and CEO of The Waddle and Cluck Lindsey Chastain seconded the benefits of growing garlic in the coming weeks. She added: "Garlic needs a cold period to grow properly, so November is perfect.

"It can overwinter in the ground and will be ready to harvest in the spring or early summer. Plant in the ground and cover with mulch, straw, or leaves.

"You can also plant in a pot with good drainage in a sunny spot. Plat about 2-inches into the soil and about 6-inches apart."

Planting at this time of year will encourage a larger crop and result in healthier bulbs. Similarly, tulips will thrive when planted around six weeks before the ground freezes.

Gene suggested finding a spot in your garden that gets enough sun as this will help you to achieve a beautiful display in spring.

"Choose a well-draining, sunny location and plant bulbs about six inches deep, with the pointy end up. This timing helps ensure a vibrant bloom in spring."
