Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes can be 'similar to flu'

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated: "This product is only sold in Lidl stores in Northern Ireland.
"The presence of Listeria monocytogenes is in the product listed above.
"Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
"However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.
"Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
"McCaughey Foods is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
The official notice reads: "Our supplier, McCaughey Foods, is recalling the above product with the Use by date November 23 and Batch 051124RC due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
"If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
"Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our Customer Services Team on the numbers below."

To reach Lidl Customer Service in the Republic of Ireland, shoppers should contact the supermarket at 01 920 3010. In Northern Ireland, shoppers should call 0289 568 4888.
The FSA reiterated the advice, urging affected customers not to consume the product but to return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
The Government department provided some information on food recalls. Britons were told: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
"The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
"In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers."
Food recalls should always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety. Aldi shoppers were recently urged to check their kitchens as a new food product could pose a "serious" health risk.
