The company has switched up the recipe after admitting the latest version was "not popular"

Nestlé has made a U-turn on its decision to change its Nesquik milkshake recipe after shoppers questioned the texture of the new formula.

The company apologised after a recent shake-up of the ingredients altered the texture of the staple treat.

Fans of the Swiss brand complained after noticing their milkshakes took on a “weird texture” due to the presence of more powdery “clumps”.

Nestlé was quick to respond to the complaints, confirming that the original recipe will soon return to stores.

The update concerns the strawberry and vanilla flavours of the milkshake

Representatives for the brand explained that they had originally removed maltodextrin from the recipe and swapped it out for rice flour, which gave the milkshake a sludgy texture.

The tweak happened in April and concerned the banana and strawberry flavours of the milkshake.

Fans were quick to spot the difference and urged the brand to revert the recipe back to its original form.

“Pls change the recipe back, the strawberry milkshake powder clumps together at the bottom of the glass and has a weird texture,” one fan urged. [SIC]

Another followed: “Fix the banana and strawberry flavour, it leaves a sludge in the bottom of the glass, but doesn’t dissolve.”

A third person quipped: “The new recipe for banana #Nequik is utterly disgusting with a vile sludge left at the bottom of the glass.

“Your quality control has messed up big time there.” Shoppers were reassured that the recipe will be reversed this July.

A spokesperson said: “Our aim is always to have the best possible recipe on the market and we sometimes make changes that aim to improve on existing recipes.

“On this occasion, the change has not been popular with consumers and we have listened to their feedback.

“We can confirm the old recipe is going back into production and it should be in stores in July. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”

The brand recently left fans gutted after confirming it has axed its Yorkie Orange bars.

The citrus-flavoured chocolate is one of several flavours Nestlé has ditched this year due to a drop in demand.

The company confirmed the flavour was no longer available after shoppers started to question why it was no longer in store.
