Drivers can avoid car garages with 'mobile mechanics' after urgent MOT warning
AA
It will first be trialled in Birmingham and Manchester before a potential wider rollout
Drivers will soon have the chance to make use of a mobile mechanic who can service their vehicles at home or at work.
Many drivers have chosen to delay minor car repairs as a result of the cost of living crisis and a lack of time to visit a garage, although the AA is looking to change that.
The motoring organisation has launched AA Mobile Mechanics, which will allow drivers to benefit from a “new on-demand product”.
AA’s service will allow motorists to have their vehicles serviced without the need to visit a garage.
The new feature aims to provide greater flexibility and suit the needs of customers who are constantly on the go.
AA Mobile Mechanics can carry out servicing, as well as full and interim services at a location of the driver’s choice.
With the choice of locations, motorists can rely on the AA to fix their car while they work, allowing them to drive home with a perfectly safe car.
The new product will initially be trialled across Birmingham and Manchester, and if successful, the scheme may get a wide rollout.
James Hosking, MD AA Prestige, Autocentres and Garage Services, praised the introduction of the new service, saying it would massively benefit drivers.
He added: “Our new mobile servicing offer will help drivers keep their show on the road by offering garage-level maintenance away from the repair shop.
“Many drivers don’t have time to go to the garage and often it is difficult to get a loan car, so using AA Mobile Mechanics means we can let people carry on with their day while our experts do all the hard work.”
He highlighted how drivers were holding on to their cars for longer periods of time, stressing the importance of regular servicing.
If a driver takes risks with their vehicles, it can increase the risk of breakdowns and lead to a costlier bill further down the line.
James Hosking continued, saying: “By constantly innovating and responding to the needs of drivers, we’re providing peace of mind so they can say ‘It’s OK, I’m with the AA’.”
The time period, which has been dubbed “Nutty November”, comes as a result of new vehicle registrations in September and legacy MOT deferrals stemming from the pandemic.
Mr Hosking warned that the number of MOTs would be “incredibly high”, urging drivers to book early to “avoid disappointment”.
Data from the Government revealed that 28 per cent of all cars and vans fail their MOT, with thousands of vehicles rejected from taking the test in the first place.
