A doctor has exclusively shared the benefits of wearing SPF every day

A high-factor SPF is great for protecting against the sun and it offers more benefits than just stopping us from burning.

A doctor explained why this should be part of your daily routine to protect your health and combat the signs of ageing.

Applying SPF on your face every day - even when it is cloudy - will help turn back the clock, according to GP Dr Nisa Aslam and skin specialist from Hada Labo Tokyo, makers of the leading Japanese skin care range.

She told GB News: "Applying sunscreen to the face helps to protect it from sun damage, therefore lowering the risk of developing skin cancer.

"It also helps slow down the signs of ageing, such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots."

Sunscreen can be even more beneficial if you pick one packed with other great anti-ageing ingredients, Dr Aslam continued.

She said: "Using a sunscreen that contains an anti-ageing hyaluronic acid can help to protect from the sun rays while also giving skin the hydration it needs.

"Latest research from Hada Labo Toyko shows that, worringly, 85 per cent of women go without sunscreen, even when it is warm, and 69 per cent only apply sunscreen to their body and not their face."

Choosing a face, such as SPF Hada Labo Tokyo SPF 50 sunscreen which is clinically proven to help with anti-ageing, will be kind to the skin.

Dr Aslam continued: "The sun provides some health benefits such as helping provide the body with vitamin D, but it can also cause skin cancer and has a huge impact on skin ageing.

"UV rays have been shown to damage skin, and areas that are exposed more frequently such as the face, hands and feet, often age more rapidly than other parts of the body."

Holistic therapist Adele O’Donoghue agreed. She added: "To minimise existing signs of ageing, consider a combination of targeted treatments and healthy habits.

"Prevention is key. Incorporating simple habits can make a significant difference. No matter the weather, always apply a broad-spectrum SPF to protect against UV damage.

"It's easy to remember SPF for our faces and necks, but we often forget our hands, even though they receive just as much sun exposure."
