A 45-year-old has shared her top tips for navigating weight loss during perimenopause

Weight loss can feel like a colossal undertaking at the best of times, but it becomes increasingly difficult with age.

With the help of the right tools, however, anything is achievable. This proved true for Louise Corrans, 45, who managed to shed some pounds within three weeks of changing her diet.

Sharing her top tips on YouTube, she explained: “I did what I call a mini-cut, this is kind of a body-building, bikini competitive term."

The term mini-cut refers to an intense dieting period that involves cutting calories for a set amount of time to lose weight quickly.

Louise's approach involved becoming more consistent in the gym and undertaking a "light" weight training regimen.

She also took a daily dose of creatine, a supplement that doesn't directly promote weight loss but supports body composition goals.

“I decided to be very consistent with taking my creatine every single day," the slimmer shared. "I think that that has a huge effect.”

A number of large studies show that between three to five grams of creatine per day helps with performance, muscle building and strength.

Building muscle mass is a goal many women share during menopause because it helps with several aspects of health.

The transition period is associated with an oestrogen deficiency linked with a decrease in skeletal muscle mass and strength.

Louise claims that after three weeks of taking the supplement, she began noticing large improvements in her performance at the gym.

To get into her best shape, the slimmer admitted to making some sacrifices in her diet.

“I haven’t had any alcohol in about the last month or so, I’ve been going to bed at eight or nine o’clock every single night, and I’ve stopped having sweets, chocolate, cakes, chips," she confessed.

“I started week one by sort of tapering off all the sugars and junk foods," Louise shared.

“If you want to shred the fat, lose the pounds, get lean and get into your best shape at any age [then] slow and steady wins the race. [But] you must stick to a calorie deficit [just] don’t make it a huge calorie deficit.

“Make it sustainable and make it doable, make it to where you’re not starving,” she said, recommending a deficit of 300 to 500 calories a day.

There are countless ways to lose and maintain weight loss, so finding the approach that works best for your goals will ensure you stick to it.
