A slimmer has shared her go-to desserts to maintain a slender physique

Weight loss often brings to mind abstinence, but the healthiest approaches don’t always promote restriction.

Incorporating desserts in moderation, for instance, may support long-term weight loss success.

Chelsea Mae, a YouTuber from New Zealand who lost 2st 12lb, claims four sweet treats helped her stick to her diet, and succeed.

“If you can keep a dessert to under 200 calories, then it’s quite easy to have something like that in your day-to-day, and not have it hinder your weight loss,” she told viewers in her recent clip.

Custard balls and spiced tea

Because common dessert mistakes include overindulging in large portions, Chelsea makes sure to stock up on small treats at home, one of her favourites being custard balls.

“I really like to have a little herbal tea with something small," she said, holding out a custard ball no bigger than the size of her palm.

“These are like tiny little bliss balls,” Chelsea explained. Each unit contains roughly 200 calories.

The dieter notes that having small sweet treats like this at hand means she is “less likely to overeat”.

Ninja Creami Ice cream

Ice cream packs a hefty number of calories, but healthier alternatives exist, packing as little as 40 calories a scoop.

“Another dessert that I do quite often is a Ninja Creami,” Mae explained. “What I love about this is it adds a tonne of volume to something that starts off quite small."

Adding a single scoop of flavoured protein powder to the mixer, with half a cup of plant milk, is enough to make an indulgent dessert.

Hot chocolate

Experts at the London Obesity Clinic recommend hot chocolate because it keeps the body feeling fuller for longer, quelling cravings. This is why it's one of Chelsea’s go-to desserts.

“I like a hot chocolate because it’s not going to add a tonne of calories, and you can drink it over a long period of time,” she shared.

Chocolate pudding

When Chelsea needs something more substantial to curb her cravings, she enjoys Alpro’s soy-based chocolate puddings.

“It’s a little treat and it hits the spot,” Mae explained. “And it’s single serve.”

Although eating healthy desserts was effective for Mae, it's important to note that no single strategy works for everyone.
