A slimmer in her sixties claims one diet has been instrumental in keeping her lean

Staying slim may feel like a challenge at the best of times, but it becomes increasingly difficult after 60.

Muscle mass naturally declines at this age, which can lead to a slower metabolism, where the body burns fewer calories.

A content creator who suffered from a sugar addiction for many years claims she managed to overcome her dietary patterns with the help of a single diet.

“Quitting sugar was difficult at first," she explained. “But now my life has really evened out, I don’t crave food and I’ve decided to be on the paleo diet as opposed to the keto.

“Basically the paleo diet, which is what I follow, [includes] meats of all types, vegetables pretty much of all types and fruits pretty much of all types,” she said.

Many health bodies praise the paleo diet for weight loss because it emphasises fruits and vegetables in the diet.

This means a greater intake of fibre, which helps the body shed weight by helping it stay fuller for longer.

The diet is also lauded for tackling belly fat, with one study showing that women shed 10 pounds over eight weeks.

A recent study led by Professor Tim Spector, Genetic Epidemiology at King's College London, lauded this dietary approach after respondents successfully slimmed down their waist by 18 inches in two months.

According to the gut health expert, bringing more fibre into the diet is key for sustaining a healthy weight.

The medical expert said: “We have shown that those who follow Zoe’s nutrition advice will see improvements in their overall health.

“It is clear some current popular advice is out of date, over-focused on calories and low-fat foods with low adherence unlikely to result in long-term benefits.

“ZOE advice shows that thinking about foods in a totally different way with an emphasis on quality, personalisation and gut health can have massive benefits if adopted more widely."

Walking is one of the unsung heroes for weight loss because it helps burn calories without excessive energy expenditure.

Nuffield Health states: “10,000 steps is roughly equivalent to walking five miles or eight kilometres depending on your stride length, cadence and height.

“If you are looking to get your 10,000 steps done all in one go, you’ll be walking for around an hour and forty minutes.”

All types of exercise are beneficial, as a recent study suggested that the time spent exercising is more important than the number of steps completed.
