Motorists are facing severe delays of around two hours this morning following a serious crash on the M6, which has prompted the motorway to be shut.
The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J14 (Stafford) and J15 (Stoke on Trent) following a serious collision that occurred just after 5am this morning.
Staffordshire Police are leading the response to the collision, with investigation work ongoing to determine the circumstances around the accident.
Traffic officers from National Highways are also on the scene to assist with strategic closures on the approach.
Plans are being made to release the traffic caught within the closure to alleviate the backlog and allow drivers to continue with their journeys.
Following the serious collision, specialist contractors have been called to treat a large fuel spillage.
They will also inspect a near-side barrier that was damaged during the collision, which will further delay motorists.
