M6 CLOSED: 'Serious multi-vehicle collision' causes police to turn cars around

The M6 motorway has been closed in Staffordshire as a result of a “serious multi-vehicle collision” with drivers being warned of delays as police begin to clear the backlog.
Drivers could face traffic chaos after emergency services closed the southbound lane of the M6 in Staffordshire between J14 Stafford and J13 Dunston.
The incident occurred earlier today after a serious collision involving multiple vehicles which caused a “significant fuel spillage”.
As a result of the incident, the police have started to turn around traffic at the back of the queue to deal with the issue.

National Highways warned that drivers could expect delays for the coming hours

National Highways West Midlands has confirmed that all emergency services are in attendance and said it would release more information when it becomes available.
Data from the road traffic organisation’s website states that the event is expected to clear between 12.15 and 12.30 later today.
The same time frame is being used by the agency as to when normal traffic conditions are expected to return.
The northbound stretch of the motorway was unaffected and remains open.
A statement from National Highways West Midlands on X said: “Police have already begun to start turning around traffic from the rear of the queue. Please await instruction.”
One frustrated driver has responded to the warning message, claiming they had been stuck in traffic for two hours.
They added: "No movement whatsoever. I would love to be turned around."
The accident was believed to have taken place at around 9.42am with emergency services rushing to the scene.
Drivers involved in the traffic chaos are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol and exit the M6 southbound at J14 and take the exit to the A34 eastbound.
They should continue on the A34 southbound into Stafford until the Queensway island with the A449, with a second diversion seeing drivers continuing on the A34 south until the junction with Silkmore Lane.
National Highways states: “Join Silkmore Lane southbound and continue onward to then join the A449 Wolverhampton Road to continue onward and re-join the M6 at J13.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
