'We will open lanes for traffic to flow as soon as it is operationally safe and possible to do so'
Motorists are facing rush hour chaos after a single-vehicle collision has forced the M25 to close as emergency services attend the scene.
The M25 is currently closed anti-clockwise between Junction 6 Godstone and Junction 5 at the M25 link.
Traffic officers and emergency services remain at the scene, with images from traffic cameras showing police cars on the closed highway.
National Highways: South-East updated drivers on the traffic situation and how drivers should approach with care as delays are “beginning to build” after the 'serious collision'.

Surrey Police confirmed it was leading the investigation and the response with traffic officers assisting with strategic closures on the approach.
Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, the police force reiterated the closure on the M25 anti-clockwise, adding that it involved a single black Vauxhall Astra.
Vehicles are now being diverted off the M25 from Junction 6 with National Highways publishing a diversion route on its website.
Surrey Police added: “At this time, we anticipate that the full closure will be in place for at least two hours while emergency services respond to the incident, but this may change.
“We will open lanes for traffic to flow as soon as it is operationally safe and possible to do so.”
According to the National Highways website, the event is expected to clear between 12.00pm and 12.15am later this morning.
However, traffic levels are not expected to return to normal until around 12.15pm or 12.30pm, potentially causing havoc for drivers trying to get to work or go on holiday.
Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs. They should exit the M25 at J6 then at the Godstone Interchange take the third exit onto the A22 towards East Grinstead.
At the A22/A25 roundabout drivers should take the first exit onto the A25 towards Westerham and follow the A25 through Limpsfield, Oxted, Westerham, Brasted and Sundridge.
Once they have reached this point, they should turn left at the traffic signal junction A25/M25 to rejoin the M25 towards Dartford Crossing.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes, with Surrey Police saying it will update its social media platforms in due course.
It added that the driver of the Vauxhall Astra is currently receiving medical attention from the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS).
