M1 closed: Drivers face chaos with 10 miles of traffic and severe delays after 'multi-vehicle collision'

Drivers could face 90 minutes worth of delays and more than 10 miles of congestion following a serious multi-vehicle collision on the M1.
National Highways: East Midlands are warning that three of four lanes remain closed on the M1 northbound between J16 Daventry and J17 Northamptonshire.
Recovery is ongoing at the scene, with Northants Roads Policing Team, Northants Fire and the East Midlands Ambulance Service all in attendance.
They are being supported by National Highways officers who urge motorists to consider alternate routes.

Drivers are still dealing with delays of around 90 minutes

The most recent update from National Highways states that there are delays lasting 90 minutes, as well as 10 miles of congestion on the approach.
It has also called on motorists to seek other routes if they need to use the motorway or they will be stuck in the congestion.
Overhead cameras from the scene show long delays on the northbound road, with drivers set to wait in the standstill traffic for over an hour.
Road traffic maps from National Highways show the long delays along the M1 amid fears there are currently delays of two hours.
Traffic conditions are expected to return to normal between 5.30pm and 5.45pm later this afternoon.
The AA's route planner service reported that the incident involved three lorries and a car as traffic officers continue to deal with the scene.
Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways posted: "This incident is now clear, and all lanes have re-opened on the #M1 northbound between J16 #Daventry and J17 #M45#Northamptonshire.
"A 2-HOUR delay remains between J15A and J17 with 10 miles of congestion, and this is likely to take some time to ease. Thanks for your patience."
This follows a "serious collision" earlier on the A43 near Broughton in which four people were injured, although they were not thought to be serious.
