Electric car drivers offered free charging across the UK next week to 'show the importance' of EVs

Drivers can take advantage of this offer at a range of "amazing places" on the RAW Charging network, including Alton Towers, National Trust sites, McArthurGlen retail outlets, and Greene King pubs.

This marks the third consecutive year that RAW has celebrated World EV Day by providing complimentary charging services.

Over 500 chargers at Greene King pubs will also be available at no cost as RAW, which specialises in destination charging, looks to support EV drivers.

The destination chargers allow drivers to visit a range of popular attractions, with all EV owners able to benefit, regardless of their vehicle.

Jason Simpson, CEO of RAW Charging, commented on the initiative and supported the move to boost benefits for electric vehicle owners, especially on World EV Day.

He said: "For a third year in a row, we're delighted to celebrate World EV Day by giving back to the EV drivers of the UK and thanking our hosts for their ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions.

"Our partnerships with businesses in the leisure, hospitality and retail sectors show the importance of destination charging and we'd like to thank our customers at these amazing places by offering free charging on September 9, 2024."

Simpson added that RAW Charging was dedicated to promoting sustainable transport and supporting EV adoption across the country.

The company plans to continue expanding its network of destination charging points across the UK and Europe with plans to further facilitate the adoption of EVs and contribute to reducing emissions.

World EV Day will be celebrated by millions around the world as it reaches its 5th anniversary, with EV meetups being set up around the world to "share knowledge and passion for EVs".

World EV Day has previously been discussed in the Houses of Parliament and celebrated by the White House's top climate advisor, in addition to achieving more than 200 million X (formerly Twitter) impressions in 2023.

The latest data from Zapmap shows that there are 68,273 electric vehicle charging devices across the UK at more than 35,000 different locations.

Almost 1,500 chargers were installed in August taking the total number of connectors to more than 101,000. This is a 41 per cent increase in the number of public devices year-on-year.

There have been calls from motorists for a boost in electric vehicle charger installations to help expand the network, especially to areas where drivers may face a "postcode lottery" when looking to charge.

The Zapmap database shows 21,604 EV chargers installed in Greater London. This is significantly more than the number of chargers in Scotland (5,903), Wales (2,928) and Northern Ireland (625) when their total is combined and doubled.
