'I don't know what war crimes they think I'm going to commit with this vehicle but it shouldn't cost that much'
A driver has been left gobsmacked after being quoted more than £60,000 for a car insurance quote, saying that "there has to be a mistake".
Car insurance prices have been consistently rising for years as average quotes near the dreaded £1,000 mark for the majority of British motorists.
While prices have fallen by around £100 in the last six months, drivers are still facing an average cost of £882 for their car insurance policies.
Younger drivers are facing the brunt of the costs, with the average 18-year-old expected to pay £2,960 for their insurance, while 17-year-olds also face costs of £2,776.

The average car insurance price is now £882
GETTYEstimates from Confused.com show that drivers are unlikely to be paying less than £1,000 until they have reached the age of 38 when prices fall to £968.
However, one driver has taken to social media to highlight the extortionate costs motorists face after he was quoted more than £60,000.
Deniz, who goes by Deniztalks on Tiktok, posted a quote which shows a price of £60,862 annually, with the offer expiring in 13 days. The motorist did not select any excess details which would have forced the price higher.
The insurance provider offers legal cover from £25 and breakdown cover from £39, while personal accident, windscreen cover and courtesy car options were not available.
The TikToker, who has more than 271,000 followers on the social media platform, said: "In what world do I get quoted £60,000 to insure a car worth £4,000? I don't know what war crimes they think I'm going to commit with this vehicle but it shouldn't cost that much.
"Maybe I'm being too truthful. I'm trying to follow the law. I'm not trying to front, I'm not trying to put in wrong details.
"This is going to be parked on a driveway. Yes, this is my real address. Yes, I'm going to drive this many miles. I'm being truthful and this is what I get?"
He said that the quote was "ridiculous" and stated that he wanted a refund on his licence because of the costs associated with getting behind the wheel.
In the screenshot posted on his TikTok account, the same insurer also has an offer that is around £20 more expensive, although the full details of this cannot be seen.
Deniz questioned why he had spent so much "time, money and effort" on getting his licence, adding that "it has to be a mistake".
He noted that the car was purchased from Facebook Marketplace for £4,000, yet it would cost him 15 times more simply to get insurance.
The Tiktoker also said that for £60,000, he could put a deposit down for a house, calling the insurance provider "animals" for charging so much.

"I'm going to be 37 going for insurance quotes because I'm honest. I'm not going to lie to these insurance companies. And this is what I get for it."
