When it was first released, drivers could get their hands on the vehicle for less than £20 per month

Drivers looking to get their hands on an electric car could make the transition sooner rather than later with cheap deals helping Britons switch away from petrol and diesel.

Car manufacturers and national governments around the world are going to great lengths to get drivers to switch to an electric vehicle to lower emissions and meet net zero targets.

Motorists in the UK are no different, with the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans being banned from 2035, although many brands are aiming for a 2030 deadline.

One of the key issues facing drivers is the upfront cost of an electric vehicle, with the majority still costing more than £30,000 - a fee that many are struggling to come to terms with.

To deal with this, a handful of major car brands are launching smaller cars designed for urban mobility at much cheaper rates.

One of the most unique electric vehicles on the market at an affordable price is the Citroen Ami.

The tiny two-door electric quadricycle is one of the smallest and cheapest EVs on the market and is targeted at professionals in urban environments who want to get around quickly and in a sustainable way.

Citroen's Ami has an average range of around 46.6 miles from the 6kW battery, charging speeds of four hours from empty to 100 per cent and a top speed of 27.9 miles per hour.

For those looking to buy an Ami outright, prices start from £7,695 with the most expensive limited edition version - the My Ami Tonic - setting drivers back around £8,695.

However, the best offer for the Ami and almost all other electric cars on the UK market is to finance the car, with a starting cost of just £89 per month.

The cheapest offer is for the standard Ami model with a market price of £7,695 and a finance option of £89 per month, while prices rise for other models.

This includes a starting price of £8,095 for the My Ami Colour (£102.13 per month), My Ami Pop setting drivers back £8,495 (£99 per month) and the most expensive - the My Ami Tonic - at £8,695 (also £99 per month).

Britons looking to make the leap into an electric vehicle are unlikely to see a cheaper deal for other cars, especially ones that match up with the Ami.

When the Ami was first launched in 2022, drivers had the chance to get behind the wheel of the quadricycle for just £19.99 per month over 24 months.

The Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) offer was coupled with a customer deposit of £2,369, as well as an optional final payment to purchase the vehicle outright.

Speaking at the time, Eurig Druce, managing director of Citroen UK, said: "Having Ami in the UK is crucial, bringing our ‘Power to the People’ brand positioning to life – emphasising that Citroen offers every kind of electric for all kinds of people.
