Millions of drivers could have their travel plans impacted over the coming days

Millions of drivers have been issued with an urgent warning that their journeys could be impacted this week along major motorways as a result of road closures.

Over the coming days, a number of carriageway closures will be taking place across the country, prompting drivers to ensure their journeys will be unaffected.

It comes as experts warn that some motorways, including the M1 in Derbyshire, are being pushed beyond their limits and are often at more than 100 per cent capacity during rush hour.

GB News has rounded up the most important road closures taking place between Monday evening and Thursday morning to help Britain's motorists.

Monday

Several key sections of the M25 will be closed from 10pm on Monday evening until 5.30am on Tuesday morning along the motorway for resurfacing works and tunnel works.

This will include the M25 clockwise J8 to J9, J20 entry slip road, J20 to J21, J28 slip road and J28 to J29. Further delays will be seen on the M25 anticlockwise including J11 to J10, J26 slip road and J27 to J25.

The M6 - Britain's longest and fourth busiest motorway - will see longer closures than the M25 with most roadworks taking place between 9pm and 6am.

National Highways will be embarking on improvement works on the M6 northbound J22 to J23, while the J21 slip road will be closed for reconstruction and renewal.

Only one closure will take place along the M1 on Monday evening, with the M1 southbound exit slip road being shut at J8 between 8pm and 6am.

Between J28 and J27, the carriageway and lane will be closed for drainage works, although a diversion route is already in place via the National Highways network and local authority network.

The M25 will see similar closures the following day, with the addition of the clockwise and anticlockwise M40 northbound link road which will be closed from 10pm until 6am.

Tuesday evening will see the M6 clockwise Jct 16 roundabout partial carriageway closure (northern side) including northbound entry slip and southbound exit slip roads, as well as the M6 southbound Corley Services exit, for maintenance works.

While drivers would be content with only one closure on Monday night, seven closures are already planned for Tuesday. Heading southbound, the carriageway between J09 and J7 will be closed "for communications on behalf of National Highways". Meanwhile, technology works will see the J31 to J32 slip road close along the M1 northbound.
