Incredible British classics were up for grabs including a slick Jaguar and a Bentley with rich heritage

A massive collection of some of the best classic cars Britain and Europe have to offer were on display this past week, with a total of £1.8million raised through sales.

An impressive 79 per cent of the 155 cars on exhibition were sold at the Classic Car Auctions (CCA) event which took place at the Warwickshire Event Centre on September 30.

The headline sale was a well-maintained 1960 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupé which was sold for £67,500.

The older restored classic contains some subtle upgrades, with XK150 being one of the most popular shapes Jaguar has ever produced.

Having first been registered in 1960, the right-hand drive vehicle still retains its original green registration document, in addition to a 3.4-litre engine.

The slick Jaguar was purchased in 2012 by vendors who used it for their holidays when touring France and Switzerland before being sold.

Another British classic broke the £50,000 benchmark with one lucky driver picking up a 1996 Bentley Azure with just 55,000 miles on the clock.

It was originally supplied to the CEO of Cartier, with an original cover price of $350,000 (£280,000) almost 30 years ago.

This hefty price tag made it one of the most expensive production cars in the world at the time.

Gary Dunne, Sales Manager of CCA said: “There were a number of other remarkable results at the weekend’s sale, including a number of low ownership, low mileage examples of cars sold, with vehicles as diverse as a one owner Barn Find Jaguar Mk2 car, a single owner Alfa Romeo Spider and a two owner VW Caravelle with less than 20,000 miles selling for almost £20,000.

“Add to those a handful of Rolls-Royce, Minis, Golfs, Triumphs and more. It was a remarkable sale all round, suggesting that the formula of offering physical viewing of a fantastic selection of cars for classic car collectors is still the foremost way to bring together enthusiasts and buyers alike for a great and successful day out.”

Another one of the most unique vehicles that sold was a 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Karmann Cabriolet, which sold for £49,500.

The impressive orange Beetle has just two miles on the odometer and was found in a garage, with the pictures showing the vehicle covered in dust.

The convertible was offered at no reserve with a guide price of between £10,000 and £12,000, yet sold for almost five times the estimate.

Simon Langsdale who sourced the car for CCA said: “This was truly a once in a lifetime find.

“The car had literally been in storage all its life and had an incredible two miles on the odometer which we are told is correct.

“It had quite evidently been cossetted as it was covered in blankets in a sealed environment and had just recently been uncovered due to a bereavement.

“It was in effect a 'new' 1979 Karmann Beetle, an unrepeatable opportunity, supplied with its original handbook and service booklet, clearly with no stamps.”
