‘We stayed up for days!’ Jo Wood recalls ‘insane’ days of touring with The Rolling Stones

The band are releasing their first studio album of original music since 2005
Jo Wood, the ex-wife of Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood, has fleshed out details on the “insane” days of touring with the Rock and Roll band.
The Paint it Black stars still put on a mighty show 60 years on from their formation in 1962.
According to Wood, the band have turned into a slick operation in how they approach tour life, but this was not always the case.
She claims the pioneering rock act used to “stagger on stage” as they balanced their performances with a wild lifestyle.
Wood told Lee Anderson on GB News that she relished every moment of it, and would often “stay up for days” as the party rumbled on.
“I used to love going on tour”, she said.

“Up until 81’, those two tours I did were completely insane. We stayed up for days.
“The boys would stagger up onto stage with a bottle of Jack [Daniels].
“It was great fun. In 89’, Mick [Jagger] changed everything and it all became a bit more professional, we had to change.”
After meeting Ronnie Wood in 1977, the pair married in 1985 before eventually divorcing in 2009.
Jo says that while the band members were “crazy” during their touring days, a notable member was often well behaved, and was eventually responsible for the group’s adoption of a more straight-edged attitude.
Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the band, was one of the more sensible members, according to Wood.
“He [Mick Jagger] was always very good”, she said.
“It was Keith [Richards] and Ronnie [Wood] who were the crazy ones!”
It comes as the band announced their first studio album of original music since 2005, saying the new record will feature appearances from original member Bill Wyman, singing superstar Lady Gaga and their late drummer Charlie Watts.
Their new LP Hackney Diamonds, which will be released on October 20, will be their first collection of original songs in 18 years, and the first since the death of Watts in August 2021.
Speaking at a highly anticipated launch event at the Hackney Empire in east London, hosted by US talk show host Jimmy Fallon, guitarist Keith Richards said: “Ever since Charlie is gone it’s different, he’s number four.
“He’s missing, of course he’s missed incredibly, but thanks to Charlie we have Steve Jordan [the drummer] who was his recommendation if anything should happen to him.
“He’s been a friend of ours so he was a natural progression, it would have been a lot harder without Charlie’s blessing.”
