The 79-year-old singer slapped down reports of tension between the two earlier this week

Penny Lancaster, 53, has publicly addressed the reports of a rift between herself and husband Sir Rod Stewart, 79, following a supposed disagreement about the sale of their LA home.

Allegations emerged across press outlets this week that the husband and wife duo were at loggerheads over the sale of their Californian abode with Stewart reportedly adamant he didn't want to sell.

According to sources speaking to the Daily Mail, this decision by Stewart had left Lancaster furious as she eyed a return to the British countryside while the Maggie May singer reportedly rejected a handful of offers for their LA mansion,

On Thursday, Stewart took to Instagram to set the record straight on the reports, insisting there is absolutely no bad blood between himself and his wife.

"Despite erroneous articles in the Daily Mail and other tabloids that followed suit. We wanted to put the record straight," Stewart began.

"There is absolutely no rift between Penny and I and no disagreement over where we should reside, in fact, it's the opposite.

"We moved permanently back to our beloved Britain a year ago but are fortunate to also have homes in different countries, which we love to visit. Originally, we did think it made sense to sell our house in LA.

"But having spent a wonderful time there this summer with family and friends during my Vegas residency we realised that it makes sense to keep our house there.

"Two of my eldest children still live in Celtic House (the LA residence). Penny and I could not be more in love with each other after 27 glorious years. Please trust me on this... there's no disharmony in our marriage. Rod 'A very lucky man' Stewart."

On Thursday evening, Lancaster followed suit as she similarly took to Instagram to make her stance on the reports clear.

While Lancaster didn't pen a statement of her own, the Loose Women star did repost her husband's words and attached with a gif of a love heart with a smiley face - clearly a show of support to her other half.

The pair hit back at the source's claims to the Daily Mail that alleged: "Penny has no plans to return to LA, which she's not a fan of, while Rod has no plans to move back right now.

"They're at a stalemate and Penny is angry that Rod’s gone back on his word. It’s about saving their marriage right now."

According to the news outlet, the couple's £55 million mansion in Beverly Hills was up for sale, but the 79-year-old is believed to have "rejected two offers".

It's not the first time this week that Lancaster and Stewart's domestic life has hit headlines either.

Speaking on Tuesday's Loose Women, Lancaster alluded to "family issues" at home when discussing whether the Royal Family should reintroduce Meghan Markle and Prince Harry into the fold.

Speaking to her co-stars about the royal rift, Lancaster said: "For me, I'm not judging one way or the other - you know, do I like Harry, do I think this or that?

"I'm looking at the broader picture really, just about the family. We all have family issues to bear from time to time.

"I think it's about possibly being able to mend some of those bridges, especially as there have been so many health scares within the family.

"It would be lovely for them come back together, life is too short. It would be nice to have some peace there and some healing."
