The likes of James Norton and Damson Idris face competition when it comes taking over as 007

Daniel Craig's successor may remain a mystery but for some time now, the same names have been banded around in the conversation for the next James Bond.

In recent months, the likes of Happy Valley's James Norton and Snowfall's Damson Idris have emerged as frontrunners.

However, they've also faced competition from other big names including Rege-Jean Page of Bridgerton fame and Superman himself, Henry Cavill.

But in what would undoubtedly be a major turn-up for the books, one actor has skyrocketed into the conversation.

Actor Harris Dickinson has had his odds slashed to step into Bond's shoes next in yet another surprise shake-up to the market.

According to Star Sports, Dickinson was ranked as 20/1 outsider but an influx on interest has soared him into the top six list.

Dickinson's odds have been slashed from 20/1 all the way down to 11/2 to play the world's most famous spy.

William Kedjanyi of Star Sports said of the shift in the market: "The next James Bond market seems to take a new turn almost every week, and Harris Dickinson is the most recent candidate to attract plenty of financial attention.

"The Palme d’Or award-winning actor looks to match plenty of the requirements suited to the role.

"(He) has been backed into 11/2 from 20/1 to replace Daniel Craig."

The 27-year-old's CV includes a number of big-screen box office successes already, including Where the Crawdads Sing, The King's Man and See How They Run.

Before making his way to Hollywood, he also made small screen appearances in the BBC's Silent Witness and comedy-drama Some Girls.

While it now lands Dickinson in the conversation to take on the role, he's still some way behind the long-time frontrunners.

Norton continues to lead the way at 5/2 while Idris' odds of 11/4 appear to be unwavering.

Elsewhere, Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor Johnson remains near the top of the betting with 3/1 odds while Cavill and Page are priced at 9/2 and 5/1 respectively.

Sadly, there has been no word from Barbara Broccoli and co as to when a concrete announcement will be made on the next Bond.

The only hint there has been was back in late-2022 when Broccoli told Variety: "It’s going to be a couple of years off.

However, one thing that is for sure is that the next Bond will have to be in it for the long haul as she added: "When we cast Bond, it’s a 10-12-year commitment."
