Monty Don has taken to social media to announce the sad news that his pet dog Nell has died.
The horticulturist is no stranger to accompanying his pets on the BBC's Gardeners' World, with the adorable canines endearing themselves to viewers over the years.
Nell did just that but after being diagnosed with cancer in the summer, Don has confirmed she's sadly died.
Alongside a photo of Nell on Instagram, Don penned on Saturday: "I was going to tell you about my new book which is published next week but that can wait because my lovely dear Nell died last night.
"She was diagnosed with cancer in June and every day this summer has been a gift but it is over now.
"We buried her in the garden next to Nigel wrapped in one of my jackets with flowers, balls and her favourite biscuits.
"Her end was peaceful and dignified and ended obvious suffering but it never gets any easier to bear.
"So life goes on, but for the moment we are very, very sad," he continued, prompting floods of condolences from his followers.
One fan commented: "This sad news has brought me tears. I have many dogs through out my life and losing one is the hardest thing. They are such loyal companions and bring such happiness. So sad to hear this news but her pain is over."
A second added: "What a fantastic life Nell had with you! Dogs enter our lives and shape who we are. They help expose our qualities and defects.
"Together we enjoy the time we are allocated. Our relationship never ends because we are always better for the experience! My heartfelt best wishes."
Another echoed: "Oh gosh!!! I am so so sorry to read this. Too young. We lost our little fella to cancer at 4. Best love xo."
While a fourth weighed in: "Oh this is too sad. I’m so sorry you lost your precious girl… but she knew she was loved & gave live in rerun. That’s all any of us can hope for in this world. Sending love & sympathy." (sic)
Nell's death comes just three years after Don lost his beloved Golden Retriever Nigel, another of his dogs who'd often join him on Gardeners' World.
As Don mentioned, Nell and Nigel have been buried next to one another in a heartbreaking send-off to his pet.
After being flooded with support, Don returned to the social media platform yesterday to thank fans for their kind words.

"Thank you for all your kind messages about Nellie," Don penned alongside a series of snap of his adorable dog.
He continued: "Today I shall plant primroses on her grave and take Ned for a long walk in the flood.
"She is gone but the love remains."
