The TV doctor's body was found on the Greek island of Symi on Sunday after he was reported missing on Wednesday

Carol Vorderman, Professor Brian Cox and others stars have shared their condolences following the news that Michael Mosley's body had been found after a five-day search.

Mosley, 67, was reported missing on Wednesday by his wife after he went for a walk on his own without his mobile phone.

After his body was found, his wife, Dr Claire Bailey Mosley released a statement in which she admitted the discovery was "devastating" and that she "feels so lucky to have had this life with Michael".

Symi mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas explained on Sunday morning following the discovery: "We analysed the recorded evidence and it was obvious that it was, unfortunately, Mosley.

"He was found 10 metres away from the sea, 10-15 metres from his destination, the beach of Agia Marina, between a fence and a path."

Social media soon became awash with colleagues, co-stars and other famous faces paying tribute to the medical expert, including Prof. Alice Roberts who penned on X: "The fragility of life is so shocking.

"I’ve known Michael Mosley for many years - as a tv producer specialising in science and medicine. He was the executive producer of my 2009 series Human Journey. When he started presenting as well as producing, we made several science programmes together. And we met up at Hay Festival just 2 weeks ago. I can’t believe he’s gone. My thoughts are with his bereaved family."

Loose Women panellist Kaye Adams said on Instagram: "So sad to hear the news about Dr Michael Moseley. We really have lost one of the good guys. I’ve interviewed him countless times over the years and he was always the same- kind, interesting, interested and warm. Heartfelt condolences to his loved ones."

Elsewhere, Prof. Brian Cox typed on X: "Tragic news about Michael Mosley. He was such an important figure both on and off screen in the BBC science unit, and as a mentor to many of us when we started out in science presenting.

"And, as many of our colleagues have already said on here, he was a genuinely lovely man. So sorry for his family. RIP Michael."

Carol Vorderman similarly paid tribute: "Extremely sad and shocking news about the death of Dr Michael Mosley. He worked so hard to introduce the modern science behind health and wellness and was extremely successful communicating it. My thoughts right now are with his family and friends."

While former Labour MP Tom Watson admitted: "It's hard to describe how upset I am by this news. Through courageous, science-based journalism, Michael Mosley has helped thousands of people get well and healthy.

"I'm one of them. He was a hero to me. He will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

BBC Radio 4 presenter David Yelland also commented: "We must find ways to turn utter tragedy into something Michael Mosley would want: something deserving of such an inspiring man - everyday in my ‘Just One Thing’ cold shower I think of him, I always will, he helped so many…. others should carry on his work…"

While Martin Kemp shared: "Michael Mosley, So sad, I have spent so many hours watching and loving his work! I was praying for a different outcome! My love goes out to all his family."

And GB News regular Mike Parry remarked: "Terribly sad to have just learnt that TV Doc Michael Mosley's body has been found in a deep cave on the Greek Island of Symi. He was a very likeable and informative newspaper and TV journalist. Thoughts go out to his family." (sic)
