US Entertainment Reporter Brian Rowe has shared his thoughts on why two Barbie stars were snubbed from this year's Oscars, as Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie failed to make the nominations list.
After securing a historic Golden Globes win with the first ever Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, Barbie's director and leading star were left off of the Academy Awards 96th nominations list.
The film, made by Warner Brothers, was the highest grossing motion picture of 2023, garnering over $1.4billion at the box office and beating Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.
The two movies created worldwide phenomenon after they were released on the same day, an event dubbed 'Barbenheimer' by devoted film fans who flocked to the cinema in their millions.

The Academy received widespread criticism from the public as well as Margot's co-stars for snubbing both Barbie herself and director Greta. However, actress America Ferrera received her first nomination of the year for her role in the film as Gloria.
In a statement, actor Ryan Gosling said he was "honoured" to receive his nomination, but he was also "disappointed" to not be nominated alongside his colleagues.
Gosling told the Academy: "There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.
"To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."

Speaking to GB News, US Entertainment Reporter Brian Rowe claimed the film may have been a box office history maker, but it is "not your typical awards movie".
He added that it was "surprising" to see America Ferrera nominated for Best Supporting Actress by the Academy.
Rowe told host Patrick Christys: "Many expected the film to get Best Director for Greta Gerwig and best actress for Margot Robbie. They both missed.
"I think part of the problem is it's a very popular movie. But enough Academy members might have looked at Barbie as if it's already been rewarded in a sense."

In comparison to Nolan's Oppenheimer, which received 13 nominations by the Academy, Rowe said Barbie is "not your typical awards movie".
Rowe claimed: "Oppenheimer is more of an epic drama sweeping film, whereas Barbie, some could look at as just a more popular summer entertainment.
"At the end of the day, I think that's why it got snubbed in those top two categories, although it still got into Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay and still did very well."
The 96th Oscars ceremony will take place on the 10th March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
