The Clarkson's Farm star is back at his Chipping Norton after enjoying a family holiday in France this month

Jeremy Clarkson has thrown himself straight back into the action at Diddly Squat after returning to the UK from his vacation in sun-soaked France.

In a new clip shared to the farm's Instagram account and partner Lisa Hogan's page, Clarkson can be seen watching over a big piece of kit at work.

A stone's throw away from the farm shop, Clarkson donned a hard hat in the new clip as he watched Kaleb Cooper and another member of staff operate the machine.

The giant machine drilled into the ground while Cooper took charge of the buttons with a camera crew and farm visitors looking on.

Hogan recorded the clip and can be heard off-camera asking her other half: "Jeremy, what are we doing?"

"Fracking," the former Top Gear star replied. The accompanying caption to the clip also read: "Fracking at the farm shop. #diddlysquatfarmshop #fracking #diddlysquatfarm."

Fracking is the technique used to extract oil and gas from the ground and has been the subject of much controversy on a grander scale after prime minister Rishi Sunak reinstated the fracking ban lifted by predecessor Liz Truss.

Of course, Clarkson's claims that he was actually fracking were tongue-in-cheek as he poked fun at the size of the machinery and the drilling work he was having done.

However, it didn't stop some social media users from reacting to the clip with rather mixed responses.

Airing their concerns at the work Clarkson was carrying out, one fan blasted: "And destroying the ground water……"

While a second had another concern: "The racket going on inside those badger dens would be utterly frightening."

Elsewhere, a third demanded answers: "What's going on here? Can someone please explain?"

And a fourth had a suggestion to help Clarkson be more environmentally friendly: "Hey Jezza if your looking for cheap fuel to run ya tractor, look no further than your livestock.

"Anything like cows produce methane, capture, cool, and you have free fuel for life. Lots of farms do it. Save the planet."

However, others were quick to point out that Clarkon was being sarcastic with his "fracking" remarks and offered a more likely explanation for the latest undertaking at Diddly Squat.

One fan defended Clarkson as they explained: "For those getting their knickers in a twist he is not actually fracking (it's a joke). Borehole testing ground conditions, probably for building a carpark or something."

While a second pre-empted the uproar caused: "Oh god prepare for the woke brigade or the just stop oil protesters chucking orange stuff on it lol." (sic)

Clarkson decided to keep exactly what he had planned a secret from followers but it does look likely a borehole is behind his latest venture.
