The Grand Tour star was one of many famous faces to share their condolences

Jeremy Clarkson has penned a sweet message of support to Mark and Katherine Wogan following the death of their mother, Lady Helen Wogan.

Lady Helen's death was confirmed by her son and daughter on Thursday evening, a little under nine years after their father Sir Terry Wogan died.

The legendary broadcaster and his wife were married for 50 years and shared four children and five grandchildren.

Sir Terry, who was best known for fronting some of the BBC's biggest shows on-screen and on radio for decades, died on January 31, 2016, following a cancer battle.

Lady Helen was born in 1936, making her 77 at the time of her death. No cause has been revealed.

Mark took to Instagram to announce the sad news, sharing a sweet snap of his parents as well as a montage of clips of his mother through the years.

"Our beautiful Mum left us last night after a fantastic life," Mark penned in a joint statement with his sister. "From a young Irish rose to Lady Wogan, she was the epitome of style and grace.

"A Mother, Grandmother and Wife, with love and kindness at her core. A strength and a belief that saw her through many of life’s trials.

"A sense of humour and a turn of phrase that would have you in fits of laughter. A proper lady in every sense of the word.

"Her and Dad are hopefully sharing a vodka martini and hoping we don’t make too much of fuss. We love you Mum, now and forever," he signed off, prompting Clarkson to reply with supportive words of his own.

In the comments of the post, Clarkson penned: "Horrible when it happens. Thinking of you."

He was far from the only famous faces to share supportive words to Lady Helen and Sir Terry's children as GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes also weighed in: "Mark, so sorry to hear. What a woman and what a couple. My sincere condolences to you."

Elsewhere, singer Nicole Appleton also commented: "Oh Mark I am soo sorry... sending you and your family love."

"I'm so sorry for your loss," former X Factor presenter Kate Thornton added, followed by a love heart emoji.

"Such sad news - sending you all love xx," radio host Jamie Theakston typed while Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly echoed: "Thinking of you at this time," followed by a love heart emoji.

"Sending love matey. God bless ya all," commented singer Ronan Keating while Daly's Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman also said: "Am so so sorry xxx." (sic)

Mark stopped short of sharing a cause of death for his mother. His dad died in 2016 following a battle with cancer.

Clarkson and Sir Terry both worked for the BBC in the early noughties when the former was the face of Top Gear.

Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond even welcomed Sir Terry onto the motoring show in June 2004.

The trio left the BBC in 2015 before finding a new home on Amazon with The Grand Tour, which will air their final ever special later this month.
