James Corden’s late-night TV show was losing up to $20million (£16million) a year, stateside sources have claimed.
CBS’ The Late Late Show cost between $60million to $65 million (£47.8million to £51.8million) a year to produce.
However, it was reportedly bringing in less than $45million (£36.1 million).
Speaking to LA Magazine, an executive said: “It was simply not sustainable. CBS could not afford him anymore.”

Corden announced he would return to the United Kingdom after his TV show was axed.
The 44-year-old, who rose to notoriety after co-writing and co-starring as boisterous Billericay boy Smithy in Gavin & Stacey, was facing a multi-million dollar pay cut for staff productions.
The Late Late Show’s viewing figures have also tanked since Corden first appeared on US TV screens in 2015.
Views dropped from around 1.6million eight years ago to approximately 800,000.
But CBS previously insisted Corden’s departure was made on his own.
Speaking to Deadline at the time, Corden said: “My bosses here at CBS have been incredibly supportive and extraordinarily patient with me while I made this decision.”
The English actor-turned-presenter was being paid between $4million and $5million in his first contract at CBS.
However, the figure reportedly increased throughout his time with the US network.
