Fans of the US presidential hopeful have turned against the 79-year-old rock star

Sir Rod Stewart has found himself on the receiving end of some cruel jibes from fans of Donald Trump after sharing "gutting" news about his health.

The Maggie May hitmaker announced on Instagram that he'd been forced to cancel a gig in Vegas on doctors' orders after being diagnosed with strep throat.

While several fans rushed to share their concerns and "prayers" with the singer soon after, those fond of former President Trump weren't as sympathetic.

Many claimed the health diagnosis and axe to his tour was a result of "karma" following the singer's recent attack on Trump at one of his shows.

Earlier during his residency in Vegas, Stewart projected a series of images of Trump onto the stage where he mocked his appearance - particularly the "orange" tone of his skin.

"I didn't know he was Orange until a number of years ago, when he happened to turn Orange," Stewart's swipe at Trump said. "I respect either one, but he obviously doesn't because all of a sudden he made a turn and he went - he became an Orange person.

"I think somebody should look into that," the projected image said while Stewart continued to perform on stage for the Vegas crowd.

The dig was in reference to previous comments Trump had made against his opponent for the upcoming US presidential election, Kamala Harris.

Trump supporters angrily condemned Stewart's decision to wade into a political debate at the time and still appear to hold a grudge when it comes to the singer.

In response to the announcement about his ill health, one fan replied: "Love u Rod but seems you got karma from your orange comment #wakeup."

"Trump took a bullet to the head didn’t miss a gig," a second added. "You lost me as a lifelong fan with your bs post the other day."

"That’s what you get for the orange man comment Sir Rod," a third argued before a fourth hit out: "I have been looking forward to Trump winning the election but with NO help from you… Karma is real."

Elsewhere, a fifth blasted: "I thought this was going to be an apology about Trump! #disappointed."

Even some who remained a fan of Stewart's were keen to get a remark in about his political grandstanding as another typed: "Hope you feel better soon!! Trump 2024." (sic)

Stewart broke the news of his latest diagnosis and decision to cancel a gig on Instagram with his 1.4 million followers, where he wrote: "I'm desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration.

"Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me.

"I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused."

Looking ahead, Stewart signed off: "Thankfully we'll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there."

Stewart was referring to the fact he'd just announced The Encore Shows which will see him return to Las Vegas next year.

As well as the criticism from Trump fans, Stewart was also inundated with well wishes after many were left worried for his future on-stage given Aerosmith icon Steve Tyler recently had to retire from performing due to a vocal injury.
