Clarkson finally revealed the name of the pub on Wednesday
Jeremy Clarkson finally revealed the name of his new pub this week, which is set to open its doors for the first time on Friday.
The 64-year-old former Top Gear star has shared his journey of purchasing and opening the Cotswolds pub with fans, including some unexpected hurdles along the way. Some have now theorised the pub's name, The Farmer's Dog, could be a nod towards one of the awkward discoveries at the site.
The Grand Tour star revealed recently the pub's location was on a former dogging site and has even shared evidence of the site's history, much to the amusement of fans.
In an Instagram post shared last month, the presenter demonstrated how the area's dogging past is startlingly clear.
In a short clip, he dryly remarked: "Tell me you bought a pub on a dogging site without telling me you bought a pub on a dogging site," before revealing he was holding a twig with a pair of women's underwear hooked onto it.
He grimaced before ending the clip, which fans were quick to comment on.
Following the name reveal, many started putting together how it could link with the location's unfortunate history, especially as some had jokingly suggested calling the pub "The Dog Inn" since Clarkson's discovery.
Responding to his recent announcement, some wondered if Clarkson had deliberately alluded towards the X-rated history of the site.
"Owned by a farmer and placed on a former dogging site was the inspiration?" one asked, reports The Metro.
"Knew you’d get dog(ging) in the name somehow," another penned.
"Really missed the opportunity to call it 'The Dogging Inn' from what was found in the car park," another pointed out.
Someone else quipped it had been "homage to its previous incarnation as a dogging site."
Clarkson is understood to have bought what was previously The Windmill, apparently offering under £1million for the property which he hopes to open and sell "British food".
Writing for The Sunday Times, Clarkson stated: "I just needed the pub where this could all happen. And then, after I’d looked [at] about 14,000, I found just the place."
Revamping and opening such a business isn't all smooth sailing though, and he went on to admit he's had to deal with a few hurdles.
With the help of the local council, Clarkson managed to shut down a nearby dogging site but the area is still littered with problems, such as dead rats.
