Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been offered the opportunity to take the reins from Daniel Craig

Former Bond girl Madeline Smith is confident Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a proficient 007-in-waiting.

The 33-year-old has reportedly been offered the opportunity to take the reins from Daniel Craig.

Smith, who played Bond girl Miss Caruso in Live and Let Die (1973), says Taylor-Johnson is a good pick and has a quality that Roger Moore ‘did not have’.

She told Martin Daubney on GB News: “I think he is a beautiful looking man. He has something dear Roger Moore did not have.

“He has an air of danger. He has that narrow-eyed look.

“The thing is about darling Roger, he didn’t want confrontation in real life or indeed in film.

“I think that is maybe one tiny element against his Bond.

“He had such a pleasant face and a pleasant personality.

“I think this guy looks like he could be trouble. Bond needs to have that edge, which Sean [Connery] had.”

Asked whether the iconic film series has gone ‘too PC’, Smith said it has, adding that she believes ‘everything has’.

“Everything has become too PC. We’re in an era where we’re finding the level, I think”, she said.

“We do need a little more humour but not too many jokes.

“We don’t want a jokey Bond, we want a serious Bond, but within the script we want a bit of humour.”

Taylor-Johnson rose to fame as a superhero in Kick-Ass and played John Lennon in Nowhere Boy.

He has long been touted as the next 007 since Daniel Craig stepped down.

The Sun reported that Eon Productions, which has made most of the films in the series adapted from Ian Fleming’s novels, has offered Taylor-Johnson the main role.

The likes of Henry Cavill and Idris Elba have also long been touted as potential Bond stars, but reports suggest Taylor-Johnson has clinched the coveted role.

Taylor-Johnson has just finished Marvel superhero film Kraven The Hunter after playing the title character and Spider-Man villain. He is also set to appear in The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling.
