The Chinese dancers are childhood friends

Strictly pro Carlos Gu has broken his silence amid rumours of a rift with fellow dancer Nancy Xu.

Gu, 31, grew up in China with Xu, 33, where they learned to be professional dancers together.

Talk of a feud first began to emerge after it was reported Gu was disappointed to not be matched with a celeb partner for this series of the popular BBC dance programme.

Xu has been partnered with former X Factor winner Shayne Ward.

A show insider recently said: “The feud between Nancy and Carlos is really sad and has left everyone really shocked.”

Speaking to The Sun, they claimed: “The atmosphere on set is said to be awkward and tense when both are around”

“To many it was a relief when Carlos didn't attend the show weeks ago,” the insider concluded.

However, another source claimed told The Daily Mail: “Both Carlos and Nancy are extremely cordial and always incredibly professional on Strictly premises”.

Eager to set the record straight, Gu has spoken out for the first time since the fallout rumours started.

The Chinese dancer declared his relationship with Xu is “fine”.

“We're fine. We've been friends since childhood, and friends argue, we're too close and are like brother and sister to completely fall out,” he told The Mail.

Xu has yet to speak on the feud and has her hands full with celeb dance partner Ward.

The couple’s Rumba scored poorly on this week’s Strictly, leaving them in last place on the leaderboard.

They received two sevens and two eights for a disappointing 30 points.

Judge Anton Du Beke saw issues in the pair’s footwork and fellow judge Craig Revel-Horwood commented on a “dead space” in Ward’s chest while the routine “lacked connection and stretch”.

Head judge Shirely Ballas was merciful and praised Ward and Xu’s chemistry as a dance pairing.

Xu will be hoping to avoid a second appearance in the dance-off, where she and Ward found themselves after Halloween Week.

Strictly fans and bookmakers believe Xu and Ward’s time in the competition is running out, with them predicted to be eliminated this week.
