The penultimate episode of the series saw one of the finalists fall at the final hurdle

MasterChef 2024 is edging closer to the final episode, and Tuesday's instalment saw the final three chosen after a nail-biting episode.

Abi Kempley was eliminated by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, which sparked a big reaction from viewers.

The final four included Kempley, Chris Willoughby, Louise Lyons Macleod and Brin Pirathapan.

The four were tasked with cooking one in of the country's most iconic restaurants, La Gavroche, before its closure.

Each of the finalists were given one of the restaurant's classic dishes to prepare under the watchful eye of owner Michel Roux Jr.

"My guests expect perfection," Roux informed the four hopefuls, adding: "So make sure you nail these recipes."

Following the challenging task, Kempley admitted: "The cook was one of the most stressful things I've ever done in my entire life, but I'm feeling really good - really proud of myself."

However, the group still faced one more cook-off judged by Torode and Wallace.

For this, the amateur cooks had to create a dish dedicated to someone special to them. Dedicating her food to her mum, Kempley cooked sous vide salmon in lime oil with a red shrimp, cucumber and tomato ceviche topped with black puffed rice.

On the side was a cucumber, lime and coriander sorbet and a mayonnaise, lime and chilli dressing split with coriander oil.

The aspiring chef received mixed feedback, with Torode praising her "beautifully cured" seafood and the flavour of the sorbet.

However, he explained the salmon flavour "disappeared" with the rest of the dish.

Wallace enthused about the "freshness" of the dish but admitted it wasn't "ambitious".

When it was time to decide who would go, the two narrowed the options down to Kempley and Lyons Macleod, but ultimately decided it was time for the former to leave the competition.

While she seemed incredibly disappointed and quiet initially, Kempley graciously accepted her time in the competition was over. However, some fans were disappointed by the decision, which saw a divide among viewers.

Taking to X, one fan posted a photo on Kempley and wrote: "This woman should be in the final.#Masterchef."
