Bev opened: "We've just come off air. Finished Britain's newsroom. We had a chat on the TV show today about your book, Andrew, and how remarkable it is.

"And I think for me, one of the surprising things is how it isn't the happy ending you necessarily think of with, with adoption stories.

"We've just come off air. Finished Britain's newsroom. We had a chat on the TV show today about your book, Andrew, and how remarkable it is.

"And I think for me, one of the surprising things is how it isn't the happy ending you necessarily think of with, with adoption stories. That's what makes the story so powerful.

Andrew replied: "And it's part of the reason I wrote it, actually, because so very few people knew I was adopted. Very few people knew. I tracked down my birth mother. I was nearly 50 when I found her.

"I didn't tell my mum who brought me up, who adopted me, because I think it might have broken the heart of being terrible.

"But it wasn't straightforward. It was tumultuous at times because Margaret, my birth mother, when I did find her, didn't ask me anything about my life, what I'd done with my life, but whether I'd been happy, she was almost like she was in some form of denial.

"She then subsequently failed to show up at four separate meetings, meant to be meeting British women at home stores in Birmingham, etched in my life forever freezing cold.

"And it was hurtful because I was being and what it did. It stirred up all the rejection feelings all over again. Because I was in an orphanage for two and a half years."
