EDF launches 'market-first' tariff to slash energy bills - with zero standing charges or exit fees
EDF has announced the launch of a new "market-first" energy tariff which comes with zero standing charges or exit fees in a win for customers.
Earlier this week, the firm confirmed the new Empower Exclusive tariff will assist in cutting energy bills and carbon emissions for customers.
It is available exclusively to new customers that install a solar panel and battery bundle via Contact Solar, EDF's solar installer.
The average energy user could reduce their electricity thanks to power generated by the panels and better, according to the supplier.
This introductory deal represents the first of its exclusive solar "net zero home" product and tariff bundles.
Notably, the energy tariff comes attached with zero standing charges or exit fees which can save households a sizable amount of money.

The launch of the Empower Exclusive tariff comes after EDF’s recent acquisition of Contact Solar.
Combined, both companies are offering £500 off new solar panel and battery installations for the first 500 customers signing up to the bundle.
On top of this, customers will not have to pay anything until the solar panel system is fully installed.
Currently, the cost of installation of solar panel systems available for an average three-bedroom house comes to around £8,495.
Under Contact Solar’s package offer, customers will get 10 solar panels, a 5kw hybrid inverter and 5.32kw battery.
Furthermore, this deal includes all installation and scaffolding costs, a 10-year battery and inverter warranty, a 25-year solar panel warranty, virtual and technical survey costs, and access to a system monitoring and performance app.
As well as this, all combinations of solar and battery installs will also benefit from zero per cent VAT.
Philippe Commaret, the managing director of Customers at EDF, broke down why this new social tariff will be beneficial for consumers in the long run.
He explained: "We know more and more people are looking for ways to save cash and carbon, which is why we’re pleased to bring this unique solar product bundle to the market.

Tom Taylor, the director at Contact Solar, emphasised the concession which is currently available for the first 500 customers who take advantage of this deal.
